Illinois Gubernatorial Candidates Divestment Pledge

I pledge to divest my personal investments from all fossil fuel companies.  Specifically, prior to November 1, 2018, I will divest of any interest in Enbridge, Inc. and any of its subsidiaries, Energy Transfer Partners LP, and any company with an interest in hydraulic fracturing in Illinois. In addition, by February 8, 2018, I will sign and publicly announce my signing of the http://signforgood.com/divest-invest/ pledge, repeated here for reference:

I PERSONALLY PLEDGE TO:

  1. Make no new investments in the top 200 oil, gas, and coal companies
  2. Sell my existing assets tied to these oil, gas, and coal investments within 3-5 years.
  3. Roll a portion of my investments into climate solutions like clean energy, sustainable agriculture, local business, and many more.

Where I do not have direct control over the individual companies in my investments – such as in an employer 401K, mutual fund, or ETF – I pledge to invest in fossil fuel-free alternatives as soon as suitable options become available. I will call on my employer or fund manager and encourage them to provide such options. If I intend to engage in shareholder advocacy, I am retaining a small share for that purpose.

I will take steps in my own life to stop financing climate chaos.

My pledge is not contingent upon winning my party’s nomination or being elected the Governor of Illinois in November of 2018.

However, if elected, I pledge to do everything in my power to rapidly transition Illinois to 100% renewable energy.
